Cadets deal Wildcats first GNAC loss

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The JWU (Providence) men's lacrosse team suffered its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss on Saturday afternoon with a 10-6 loss at Norwich University Saturday afternoon at Sabine Field.

Freshman Jack Davis racked up three points (2-1-3) for the Wildcats (8-4, 6-1 GNAC), who outshot the Cadets 36-33 – including 20-12 in the second half – but saw only 15 of their attempts go on net. Junior Jackson Vecchio finished with a goal and an assist while graduate student Greg Centeio, junior Donny McInnis, and freshman Jack Donnelly each found the back of the net.

The Cadets (9-5, 6-1) scored the first three goals of the game and led 8-3 at the break and 10-4 after three quarters of play. JWU scored the final three goals of the contest, one in the third from Davis and fourth-quarter tallies from Vecchio and Centeio.

Norwich won 14-of-20 at the X and overcame 27 turnovers – five of which were caused by JWU graduate student Peyton Emrick – to secure the win. Senior Chris April stopped 13 shots for the Wildcats.
