Wildcats defeat Terriers, clipped by Stars in extras

CLERMONT, Fla. – The JWU (Providence) softball team picked up its second win of 2024 with a 7-5 win over Thomas (ME) before dropping a 1-0 decision to Dominican (IL) in eight innings Tuesday in non-conference action at The Spring Games in Florida.

Senior Hailey Erickson picked up a pair of run-scoring singles and finished with two RBI for JWU. Classmate Julia Huzi recorded two hits and also plated a run with a sac fly while junior Mackenzie Clee scored three runs and junior Danielle Floyd, along with freshmen Jessica Forneiro and Amanda Madigan, each laced an RBI single. In the circle, sophomore Jillian Reed came on in relief to record her first win of 2024, allowing five hits and three runs (one earned) with five strikeouts over 5.2 innings.

Erickson recorded two of the Wildcats five hits while junior Katie Scheid allowed six hits and one unearned run over seven-plus innings of work. She did not walk a batter and fanned two.
