Anchorwomen leave JWU with two wins

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) softball team dropped a Friday evening non-conference doubleheader to Rhode Island College at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
 
Game One: Anchorwomen 6, Wildcats 2
Senior Julia Huzi laced a two-run single in the seventh for the Wildcats, who finished the game with five hits, two of which came off the bat of junior Caroline Amorelli. Junior Mackenzie Clee took the loss for JWU, allowing six hits and five runs in 5.1 innings of work. She walked and did not record a strikeout.
 
Game Two: Anchorwomen 4, Wildcats 3
Clee went 3-for-3 and scored twice while Huzi ripped an RBI double, senior Hailey Erickson plated a run with an RBI groundout, and Amorelli brought in another with sac fly. RIC moved ahead for good in the fifth on an RBI double. Junior Katie Scheid allowed four runs (one earned) in 4.2 IP before being lifted in favor of sophomore Jillian Reed, who worked the final 2.1 innings. JWU hurlers combined to strike out five Anchorwomen.
