Aireus Raspberry poured in 25 points and junior
Josh Zangerle added 21 points in the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team's 77-75 win over New England College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Bridges Gymnasium.
Raspberry added 10 points, six assists and a pair of steals playing all 45 minutes while Zangerle knocked down five 3-pointes in 43 minutes of action. Sophomore
Izaiah Shaw-Glen chipped in with 11 points while junior
Jonah Phang registered eight points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
The Wildcats shot 46 percent from the field and overcame a 48-32 rebounding discrepancy to secure a key conference road win. The Pilgrims knocked down 44 percent of their field goal attempts but shot 52 percent from the charity stripe.
JWU held a two-point halftime lead (41-39) behind 13 from Zangerle. Later, the Wildcats found themselves trailing in the waning moments of the second half following a basket from Michael Hills with 56 seconds remaining. Shaw-Glen was fouled on the ensuing possession and knocked down 1-of-2 from the charity stripe to tie the game at 68 and force overtime.
In the extra session, Raspberry gave the Wildcats a four-point lead at 74-70 following a pair of layups with 1:21 remaining. The Pilgrims then found themselves down one with 22 seconds to go and missed a jumper with eight seconds remaining that would have put them in front.
