Camels deal Wildcats first loss of 2024-25

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) women's basketball team suffered their first loss of the season on Monday night, a 70-61 setback to Connecticut College in non-conference at the Wildcat Center.

Freshman Brianne Foley scored a team-high 16 points to go with five boards and three dimes as the Wildcats slipped to 6-1 on the season. Classmate Grace Jaffray collected 12 points, eight rebounds and three assists while sophomore Alexa Lora dropped in 12 points on 6-of-8 shooting.

Each team shot 39 percent from the field, however this game was decided on the glass as the Camels held a 52-35 edge in rebounds, highlighted by a 14-point, 15-rebound effort from Addi Hunter. Junior Mikayla Caruso snared a team-high nine boards for JWU, which turned 20 turnovers into 14 points while scoring 26 points on the break.

The Camels held a nine-point halftime lead at 39-30 as Jaffray paced the home team with 10 points. The lead grew to 16 after three (58-42) as many as 19 in the fourth. A quick 11-2 run brought the Wildcats to within 10 with less than two minutes on the clock before time ran out.

Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Rookie of the Week Isabella Suero closed the night with nine points in 35 minutes.
