Game Recap: Women's Ice Hockey |

Tow nets game-winner in 1-0 shutout of UNE

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Junior Zoe Tow broke a scoreless tie midway through the third as the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team blanked the University of New England 1-0 in Conference of New England (CNE) action Saturday night at Lynch Arena.

Freshman Katelyn Cardoso turned aside 34 shots in her first collegiate start to backstop the Wildcats to their second-straight win over the Nor'easters. JWU is off to its best start since the 2021-22 campaign when it opened the season with three-consecutive wins.

The Nor'easters entered the third with a 24-12 edge in shots and 0-for-3 with the extra attacker. After killing off their fourth minor penalty of the night, the Wildcats potted the game-winner at 11:54 when freshman Marissa Lafferty forced a UNE turnover in its defensive zone and Tow put the puck past goaltender Kirsten DiCicco for her second of the season.

UNE then pulled its netminder with 1:04 remaining and fired off six shots during that span, two of which were blocked and one was stopped by Cardoso. The visitors finished the night with a 34-17 edge in shots and 0-for-4 on the PP. Senior Cassidy Rockwood had five of the Wildcats 24 blocked shots.
