Wildcats skate to 3-3 tie with Bison in inaugural CNE contest

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Sophomore Chris Alexander scored his first goal of the season for the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team in a 3-3 tie with Nichols College Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.

Alexander later scored the game-winning in the shootout as the Wildcats (0-1-1, 0-0-1 CNE) earned points in their inaugural CNE contest. Seniors Kadyn Fennell and Sam Band also found the back of the net for JWU, which also received two apples from sophomore Brad Crook and 32 saves from sophomore netminder Jake Inzirillo.

Band opened the scoring just 15 seconds into the contest following a nice stretch pass from Crook. Alexander doubled the lead less than four minutes later off a feed from Crook before the Bison (1-1-1, 0-0-1 CNE) cut their deficit in half with a short-handed marker at 14:32 of the period.

After the visitors tied the game 1:26 into the second, Fennell threw a backhand deke at the NC goalie for his third-career tuck to put the Wildcats ahead 3-2. Nichols answered at 10:38 of the second to draw even and finished the night with a 35-22 edge in shots – including a 5-1 edge in OT.

In the shootout, graduate student Brendan Shandley scored the first goal for JWU, and Inzirillo followed with three-consecutive saves. Alexander ended the night with a goal on a forehand deke.
