Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Alexander scores twice in come-from-behind win over Owls

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Sophomore Chris Alexander scored a pair of third-period goals to propel the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team to a 3-2 win over Westfield State University Tuesday night in non-conference action at Lynch Arena.

Classmate Brad Crook added his first goal of the season for the Wildcats (3-3-1), who saw freshman netminder Maxim Zinchenko recover from allowing two goals in the opening 6:43 of the contest to stop 37 shots and record his first collegiate win.

The Owls scored on their first shot of the contest at :46 seconds and double their lead less than six minutes later. In the second, Crook redirected a pass from senior Sam Band 18 seconds in to cut the JWU deficit in half before Alexander tied the game at two at 11:12 of the third off a feed from sophomore Harout Torosian.

The contest appeared destined for overtime when graduate student Noel Parker hit Alexander at the left post for his third tuck of the season with 1:23 remaining in regulation. The Owls proceeded to pull their goaltender for the extra attacker and sent several unsuccessful shots towards Zinchenko, who turned aside all 11 shots he faced in the stanza.

Westfield State held a 39-34 shots advantage and both teams went 0-for-3 on the PP. Senior Kadyn Fennell was credited with the second assist on the game-winner for JWU.
