Harout Torosian scored the game-wining goal on the power-play midway through the third and sophomore
Jake Inzirillo stopped 40 shots to propel the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team to a 5-3 win over Assumption College Saturday night in non-conference action at the Worcester Ice Center.
Freshman
Noah LaFleur added a pair of goals for the Wildcats, who improved to 4-4-1 on the season and equaled their win total from all of last season in just their first month of competition in 2024-25. Freshman
Bret Beale and
Luke Gaffney also found the back of the net while junior
Cam Martin led all student-athletes with 10 shots.
The Greyhounds opened the scoring at 8:15 to grab the early lead, but LaFleur knotted the game at one with his second goal of the season at 11:14 of the first. Beale potted his team-leading fifth of the season early in the second before Assumption tied the game at two less than 10 minutes later.
In the third, LaFleur put the Wildcats ahead for good at 3-2 with his second career goal at 3:15. Torosian's PP goal at 10:22 doubled the lead and Gaffney sealed the win with a marker with 1:11 remaining in regulation.
Assumption outshot the Wildcats 43-39.
