Men's Basketball suffers one-point loss at Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Senior Josh Zangerle poured in a game-high 24 points for the JWU (Providence) men's basketball team in a 65-64 loss to Purchase College in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at the SUNY Gymnasium.

Junior Izaiah Shaw-Glen added 11 points and five boards for the Wildcats, who also received nine points from freshman Roel Figueroa and eight from graduate student Sean Duke. Graduate student Mike Rogers and freshman RJ Jones chipped in with five points.

JWU knocked down 48 percent of its shots in the opening half and carried a 39-28 into halftime. Zangerle scored 16 of his points in the opening stanza and also led JWU with seven boards. Defensively, the visitors held Purchase to 29 percent shooting.

In the second half, the game was tied at 59 with five minutes remaining when the Panthers scored six-straight points to take a 65-59 lead. A triple and a layup from Zangerle brought the Wildcats to within one with 55 seconds on the clock, but he was then unable to convert the front end of a 1-and-1 with six seconds left.

JWU (1-3) closed the contest shooting 37 percent and was outrebounded 43-36. The Panthers, meanwhile, shot 45 percent in the second half to remain unbeaten at 3-0.
