Middendorf scores in one-goal loss to Seahawks

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Senior Reese Middendorf scored her first goal of the season for the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team in a 2-1 loss to Salve Regina University Saturday night in non-conference action at Lynch Arena.

Junior Zoe Tow picked up the assist on Middendorf's fifth career tally as the Wildcats were upended by their in-state rivals in the season-opener for both.

Salve Regina scored 2:49 into the contest and doubled its lead seven minutes into the second period. Twelve seconds later, the Wildcats cut their deficit in half but were unable to secure the equalizer.

Graduate student Leah White stopped 29 of the 31 shots she faced in net for JWU, which was a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. Middendorf blocked a team-high three shots and freshman Kailin Kane fired off a team-leading five shots.
