PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Freshmen
Kailin Kane and
Grace Adams each scored their first two collegiate goals for the JWU (Providence) women's ice hockey team in a 5-1 win Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England action at Lynch Arena.
Freshman netminder
Katelyn Cardoso turned aside 26 of 27 shots to improve to 2-0-0 in her collegiate career; through two starts, she owns a .984 save pct. and a 0.50 goals against average (GAA). Junior
Kylie O'Keefe, meanwhile, handed out a pair of assists as 10 different Wildcats found their way onto the scoresheet.
Freshman
Jordan Hopping scored her first collegiate marker midway through the first to stake JWU (3-2-0,3-1-1 CNE) to a 1-0 lead after one. Goals from Adams at 9:34 and Kane seven minutes later pushed the lead to 3-0 before a late goal from the Rams made it a two-goal lead for the home team heading to the third.
Adams made like NHL Hall of Famer Scott Niedermayer on the Wildcats fourth goal, carrying the puck from her own and coast-to-coast before tucking the puck into the net on her backhand to extend the lead to 4-1 at 8:28 of the third. Kane's second of the contest with 4:05 remaining capped the scoring.
JWU outshot the Rams 28-27 and killed off three Rams power-play opportunities. Senior
