Walsh, Bone score for JWU in loss to Leopards

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – Sophomore Ryan Walsh scored his first collegiate goal for the JWU (Providence) men's ice hockey team in a 5-2 loss to Wentworth Friday night in Conference of New England (CNE) action at Lynch Arena.

Junior Davis Bone also scored for the Wildcats (1-2-1, 1-1-1 CNE) while freshman netminder Maxim Zinchenko turned aside 27 shots in his debut. Graduate student Brendan Shandley, senior Sam Band, and freshman Luke Gaffney all picked up assists for JWU, which was outshot 32-29.

The Wildcats opened the scoring 2:07 into the first with a slapshot from the left point. Later in the stanza, Bone's wrister eluded WIT goaltender Jack McGovern for his first of the season to put them up by one at the end of the first.

The Leopards outshot the home team 15-10 in the second and scored twice to move in front 3-2. They tacked on two more in the third on a pair of JWU miscues to improve to 3-2-0 on the season (2-1-0 CNE).

Sophomore Joe Freeman blocked a game-high six shots while sophomore Chris Alexander won a game-high 11 face-offs.
