PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore
Sophia Warburton scored the game-winning goal 18 minutes into the second half to send the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over the University of Saint Joseph (CT) Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's soccer action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior
Angelina Oliveira added an insurance marker less than four minutes later as the Wildcats remained perfect in conference play at 8-0-0 while improving to 10-3-0 overall. Warburton picked up an assist on Oliveira's marker and freshman
Rowan Garr also found her name onto the scoresheet as she set up the game-winner.
Following a scoreless first half which saw the home team outshoot the Blue Jays 10-1, Garr send feed for inside the midfield line to Warburton on the right side. The reigning GNAC Rookie of the Year cut back to her left and placed a shot inside the left post. Oliveria added her second of the season when she flipped a cross from Warburton into the right side of the net.
Sophomore
Ava Vaughan recorded three saves to earn her third win of the season and first solo shutout. The Wildcats finished the evening with a 30-5 shot advantage with Oliveira boasting a team-high five.
