Millett's fifth goal lifts Wildcats past Pilgrims

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Rayne Millett scored the game-wining goal 2:52 into the second half to send the JWU (Providence) field hockey team to a 2-1 win over New England College Saturday afternoon on Homecoming Weekend in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Ava Pontes also scored for the Wildcats, who improved to 8-3 on the season (5-0 GNAC) and defeated the only GNAC team who defeated them during the 2023 campaign. Sophomore Sophia Brea turned aside two shots – including a key save early in the first quarter – to move to 5-3 on the season.

The Pilgrims (8-3, 3-2 GNAC) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal from Adelaide Kelly five minutes into the contest. Pontes ties the game at one with a shot from straight away that tied the game at one. In the second half, Millett knocked a ball past the NEC goalkeeper near the right post for the winner.

The Wildcats outshot the visitors 12-6 – including 8-3 in the second half – and each team received six penalty corners.
