PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomores
Sophia Warburton and
Grace Sheehan scored first-half goals to send the JWU (Providence) women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Wednesday night at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior
Angelina Oliveira added an insurance marker in the second half to help the Wildcats remain unbeaten in their last eight matches and improve to 14-3-1 on the season (12-0- GNAC). Senior
Emily DeRoehn registered a pair of assists to push her point total on the season to 14.
Warburton converted a long free kick from DeRoehn into her fifth goal of the season tom open the scoring 10:35 into the match. Sheehan doubled the lead when she stole the ball from a Rivier defender and deposited her team-leading ninth goal of the season into the net. Oliveira then stretched the lead to 3-0 in the second half with a shot into the lower left corner off a chip from DeRoehn at 59:57.
Senior
Leah Bragaw was credited with two saves to improve to 4-1-0 on the season. JWU outshot the Raiders 25-4 and held a 10-0 edge in corner kicks.
Prior to the start of the match, JWU student-athletes honored professors and staff who have made a game-changing impact on their student-athlete experience as part of the University's 'Gamechanger' initiative.
