Ward scores twice in 7-0 win over Dean

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  – Senior Izzy Ward scored a pair of goals in the JWU (Providence) field hockey team's 7-0 win over Dean College Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Megan Salsinha collected her second hat trick in five games as the Wildcats extended their win streak to six and improved to 7-3 on the season (4-0 GNAC). Sophomore and reigning GNAC Rookie of the Year Ava Pontes dished out three assists while senior Haley Budenas chipped in with a pair of secondary helpers on penalty corner goals.

Salsinha scored three times in the first 23:35 of the contest to help JWU build a 4-0 halftime lead. Sophomore Rayne Millett's fourth goal of 2024 came nine-and-a-half minutes into the second half and was followed by goals from junior Samantha Blahut at 44:09 and Ward at 51:39.

The Wildcats outshot the Bulldogs 37-1 as sophomore and reigning GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year Sophia Brea teamed up with junior Rebecca Johnson to post the team's sixth shutout of the season.
