Field Hockey works OT to defeat Monks, 2-1

STANDISH, Maine – Sophomore Rayne Millett scored her sixth goal of the season 1:25 into the second overtime to send the JWU (Providence) field hockey team to a dramatic 2-1 win at St. Joseph's (ME) Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the SJC Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Megan Salsinha picked up the assist on Millett's third game-winning marker of 2024 as the Wildcats extended their win streak to 11 and moved to 12-3 on the season (0-0 GNAC). Junior Zofia Bangs added her ninth goal of the season early in the fourth quarter to help the Wildcats force overtime.

The Monks opened the scoring 7:38 into the second quarter on a goal by Abbie Jacques. The score remained 1-0 until Bangs found the back of the net for the second-straight contest to pull JWU even with the home team.

The Wildcats outshot the Monks (7-8, 6-3 GNAC) by a 13-3 margin and held a 10-3 edge in penalty corners. Salsinha and sophomore Elaina Fseisi each got off three shots to lead the visitors. Sophomore Sophia Brea did not record a save and saw her record move to 8-3 with the win.
