Wildcats win stroke-off thriller at Simmons, 3-2

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Freshman Susannah Brown scored the game-winning goal in a stroke-off to propel the JWU (Providence) field hockey team to a dramatic 3-2 win at Simmons University Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Daly Field.

Junior Zofia Bangs opened the scoring in the first and graduate student Megan Salsinha forced overtime with her team-leading 11th goal of the season early in the fourth for the Wildcats (11-3, 8-0 GNAC). Sophomore and reigning GNAC Goalkeeper of the Year Sophia Brea recorded six saves in a shootout which went three rounds to backstop JWU to its 10th-consecutive victory.

Senior Haley Budenas, sophomore Rayne Millett, and Brown all scored in the first sudden death shootout. Brown and Salsinha each converted their attempts in the second sudden death round before Brown ended it in the third.

Freshman Ava Gaudette registered an assist on Salsinha's goal and now has points in consecutive outings for the second time in 2024.
