PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore
Hannah Geil scored her second goal of the season on a penalty stroke with 1:15 remaining in regulation to lift the JWU (Providence) field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Colby-Sawyer College Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior
Haley Budenas also scored for the Wildcats, who improved to 10-3 on the season while remaining perfect in conference play at 7-0. JWU outshot the Chargers 16-4 and held an 11-0 edge in penalty corners in a rematch of last season's GNAC Championship contest.
Budenas opened the scoring just 4:42 into the contest when she polished off a corner that she started with assists going to graduate student
Megan Salsinha and freshman
Ava Gaudette. The Chargers tied the game on their first shot of the contest five minutes into the second half on a goal from Brooke Farquhar – her team-leading 11th of the season.
Following a series of penalty corner attempts with time winding down in the fourth, Geil was awarded a penalty stroke and buried her shot inside the left post for the game-winner.
Sophomore
Sophia Brea turned aside three shots to improve to 6-3 on the season. Sophomore
Elaina Fseisi led the Wildcats with three shots.
