Wildcats roar back, stun Pride in five on Senior Night

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The JWU (Providence) women's volleyball team rallied from an 0-2 deficit to defeat defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Champion Regis (MA) College 3-2 on Senior Night at the Wildcat Center Friday night.

Graduate student Peyton Oliver – who was honored prior to the match along with senior Myla Domazet – tallied a match-high 15 kills, including the deciding point in the fifth set. In the process, she became the third student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,400-kill mark as the Wildcats (11-9, 5-1 GNAC) rebounded from losses of 25-14 and 26-24 to win the next three 25-22, 25-16, and 18-16.

Oliver also finished the night with seven of JWU's 28 blocks (four solo) on the evening; junior Ajie Jagne was credited with seven of her own while freshman Bailey Koopman recorded five. Offensively, Koopman was next behind Oliver with seven kills while Jagne, along with freshmen Skylar Winchester and Nevaeh Arnold, all went for six.

Arnold handed out 26 assists and classmate Sophia Diphilippo doled out 13 of her own to go with seven digs. Junior Sierra Nausieda was credited with a season-high 25 digs and Winchester compiled 13 as JWU held the Pride (14-6, 6-3 GNAC) to a .010 hitting pct. over the final three sets.

Oliver carried eight kills into the final set before going off for six in the fifth set – racking up a hitting pct. of .429 during that span – to propel the Wildcats to their fourth-straight dub. After swinging at a -.066 clip through two sets, the home team registered a .236 hitting pct. the rest of the way en route to their fourth 3-2 triumph of 2024 and second from an 0-2 hole (Western New Eng., Sept. 20).
