Lasers strong first half lifts them past Wildcats

NEWTON, Mass. – The JWU (Providence) men's basketball team was defeated by Lasell University 67-51 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Tuesday night at the Lasell Athletic Center.

Graduate student Aireus Raspberry led the Wildcats with 17 points while junior Josh Zangerle collected 13 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Izaiah Shaw-Glen pulled down a team-high nine rebounds for JWU, which shot 32 percent from the field.

The Wildcats shot 22 percent in the first half and trailed by 24 at the break (41-17). They clamped down defensively in the second half, holding the Lasers to 5-of-30 shooting (17 percent) while rattling home 43 percent of their attempts.

Lasell connected on 21-of-23 from the charity stripe (91 percent) compared to 6-of-9 for JWU, and held a slim 37-36 edge on the glass.
