PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student
Aireus Raspberry notched a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds in JWU-Providence's 66-63 loss to Emerson College in non-conference men's basketball action Tuesday afternoon at the Wildcat Center.
Sophomore
Izaiah Shaw-Glen added 14 points for the Wildcats, who shot 43 percent from the field. Senior
Mike Rogers, junior
Silas Sawtelle, and freshman
Symien Jemison each chipped in with six points while senior
Sean Duke snared 10 rebounds and Raspberry dished out a game-high six dimes.
The Lions held a slim 29-28 lead at the half behind eight points from Lucas Brenner. JWU was led by Raspberry with eight points and seven boards, and six from both Rogers and Sawtelle.
The Wildcats took a 57-54 lead on a triple from Shaw-Glen with 3:38 remaining in regulation. Brendan McNamara then canned his second triple of the afternoon on the ensuing possession to tie the game at 57. Later, JWU trailed by two with less than one minute remaining before a layup from Shaw-Glen knotted the game at 63.
Emerson's Trevor Arico dropped in what proved to be the game-winning bucket with 25 ticks remaining, nailing a jumper from inside the three-point arc before making the and-1 free throw. Raspberry's three-point attempt to tie the game missed to the left with nine seconds left.
Each team pulled down 35 rebounds and nearly shared the time with the lead (17:13 for Emerson, 14:08 for JWU). The one clear advantage was at the charity stripe, where the Lions went 14-of-18 while the Wildcats were 5-of-10.
