Spartans hand Wildcats 5-2 loss in Vermont

CASTLETON, Vt. – Senior Brendan Shandley and sophomore Brendan Doyle scored goals for the JWU-Providence men's ice hockey team in a 5-2 loss at Vermont State University-Castleton Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's hockey action at Spartan Arena.

Seniors Maxime Dumas, Declan Dennehy, Hayden Haldane, and freshman Harout Torosian all picked up assists for the Wildcats, who outshot the Spartans 40-27. Senior netminder Jaxon Friedman stopped 22 shots between the pipes.

Shandley opened the scoring 7:43 into the first to stake the visitors to an early lead. Following two Spartan goals, Doyle scored on the PP with 5:07 remaining in the first to tie the game at two.

Castleton scored the eventual GWG with 17 seconds remaining in the second before adding two insurance markers in the third. Graduate student Brent Rickett paced the Wildcats with eight shots.
