PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior
Izzy Ward scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season seven minutes into the second half to lift the JWU-Providence field hockey program to a 2-1 win over the University of New England Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Ava Pontes also scored for the Wildcats (6-0), who saw their shutout streak to start the season end at 322:53. JWU received a pair of assists from graduate student
Margaret Johnson as well as one from senior
Kaitlyn Freeman.
The Wildcats received five penalty corners in the opening quarter and scored on the fourth one to take a 1-0 lead. Johnson inserted the ball to Freeman at the top of the circle, and her shot was redirected by Pointes at 8:36.
The Nor'easters tied the game at one with a goal by Shelly Tremblay off a corner at 22:53. In the third, Johnson broke down the right side and sent a pass to Ward in the circle, and the Plymouth, Massachusetts native one-timed the shot at 47:03 into the net for the game-winner.
Freshman
Sophia Brea turned aside a career-high five shots to earn her sixth win of the season. JWU closed the match with a 13-9 edge in shots.
