PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student
Margaret Johnson scored the game-winning goal just before the half to lift the JWU-Providence field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State University Friday afternoon in the season-opener for both at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Graduate student
Mackenzie Wolf, junior
Izzy Ward, and sophomore
Caitlin Quinn also found the back of the cage for the Wildcats, who opened their season with a win over the Warriors for the third-straight campaign. JWU outshot the visitors 22-5 and held an 11-5 edge in penalty corners.
The Wildcats received a penalty corner as the halftime horn sounded and Johnson banged home a rebound to stake them to a 1-0 lead. Ward doubled the lead 4:40 into the second when she knocked in a rebound off a long ball from Johnson. Quinn scored in similar fashion late in the third before Wolf capped the scoring at 51:12.
Freshman
Sophia Brea recorded one save in her collegiate debut before being lifted for sophomore
Rebecca Johnson at the start of the fourth.
