JWU belts four home runs in sweep of Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University scored 29 runs in sweeping its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at the USJ Softball Field.

Game One: Wildcats 14, Blue Jays 6
Graduate student Jill Pulek smacked a pair of home runs and finished the opener with three hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. Her first home run of the afternoon in the second helped JWU extend its lead to 5-0, and her second round-tripper in the fifth pushed the score to 11-5. Sophomore Mackenzie Clee ripped a two-run triple and finished with two hits and three RBI while sophomore Caroline Amorelli hit a two-run shot in the second and also laced an RBI single. Sophomore Katie Scheid allowed five hits and six runs (five earned) with one walk and one strikeout in 4.1 innings of work to earn the win.

Game Two: Wildcats 15, Blue Jays 9
Junior Hailey Erickson picked up her 100th career hit and closed the day 4-for-5 with three doubles and four RBI. Sophomore Mady Lyons smashed her fifth home run of the season – tying her with Pulek for the team lead – and racked up four RBI; she now has three 3-run home runs in the past two games.  Junior Julia Huzi, along with Pulek and Amorelli, all plated two runs and helped graduate student Livia Feole record her second win of the season in relief of junior starter Sage Borkowski. Feole surrendered six hits and two runs with one walk and two strikeouts in 5.1 innings.
