PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Senior Taina Gamory scored six goals and dished out three assists in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 18-7 win over Elms College in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Quarterfinals Saturday evening at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Junior Katie Sloan added five goals and a helper for the Wildcats (14-2), who will host the conference semifinals on Wednesday at the SMAC. Sophomore Madeleine Gould picked up a hat trick while seniors Ally Wilson and Margaret Johnson each scored twice.
JWU raced out to a 4-0 lead behind two goals from Gould before the Blazers (7-8) ripped off four-straight to tie the score. JWU responded by scoring four of the next five goals to close the half with an 8-5 lead, then outscored the visitors 10-2 in the second half to pull away.
Sophomore goalie Emma Glyman recorded 10 saves to improve to 14-2 on the season; freshman Liberty Conlin played the final 10:26 between the pipes and stopped one shot. Gamory led all student-athletes with seven ground balls, and both Sloan and junior Emma Crowley caused three turnovers.
