PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Xavier Botelho smacked a three-run home run and drove in six in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 20-5 win over WPI Wednesday night in non-conference baseball action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Center.
Classmate Thorin Sanchez-Guerra hit two round-trippers and drove in four as the Wildcats (21-13) pounded out 16 hits and ran their win streak to four. Junior Riley Hasson and sophomore Trevor Juan each plated three runs; Hasson also scored four times while Juan picked up three hits and scored twice.
Juan's two-run single highlighted a six-run first inning for JWU, which added three in the second on Sanchez-Guerra's three-run jack. In the third, Botelho's two-run double sparked a three-run frame and extended the Wildcats lead to 12-2. They tacked on four in the fourth behind RBI singles from Juan and senior Miles Kelly, and fourth more in the seventh on a three-run bomb from Botelho and a solo blast from Sanchez-Guerra.
Freshman Brett Nickerson allowed eight hits and five runs (four earned) with one walk and three K's in six innings of work to improve to 2-3 on the season for JWU.
