PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team took two games from Lasell University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Game One: Wildcats 7, Lasers 4
Senior Meaghan Gurska smacked a three-run home run in the second and a two-run shot in the sixth to propel the Wildcats to a win in the opener. Sophomore Caroline Amorelli followed junior Hailey Erickson's triple with a single to plate the fourth JWU run in the third, and sophomore Mackenzie Clee's RBI single in the sixth capped the scoring for the Wildcats. The Lasers got two back in the seventh to cut their deficit to 7-4 before Amorelli hauled in the potential game-tying home run on the warning track in left-center field for the final out of the game. Graduate student Livia Feole earned her sixth win of the season in the circle for JWU, allowing 11 hits and four runs in seven innings of work. She did not walk a batter and fanned one.
Game Two: Wildcats 9, Lasers 0 (6 inn.)
Graduate student Jill Pulek belted a three-run home run in the fifth and Erickson registered a two-run double as the Wildcats rolled to a game two win. Erickson finished with three RBI while Pulek went 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored in support of sophomore Katie Scheid, who held the Lasers to two hits while striking out five over six shutout innings to move to 13-2 on the season. Clee, along with junior Julia Huzi and freshman Jadyn Torres, all finished with two hits.
