PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Mackenzie Clee plated the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh in game one as the Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team split its non-conference softball doubleheader with Framingham State University Thursday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Game One: Wildcats 8, Rams 7
The Wildcats trailed 7-1 heading to the bottom of the fourth before a two-run single from Clee cut the deficit to four. In the fifth, a sac fly from sophomore Caroline Amorelli and a bunt single from Antaya made it 7-5 before an RBI double from Pulek and a run-scoring single from junior Hailey Erickson in the sixth evened the score. Antaya singled with one down in the seventh, stole second, advanced to third on a fielding error, and scampered home on a bunt by Clee. Antaya finished 4-for-4 while Clee finished with three hits and two runs scored. Sophomore Katie Scheid pitched a scoreless seventh to earn her 12th win of the season.
Game Two: Rams 10, Wildcats 3
Freshman Mady Lyons smacked her fifth home run of the season and Clee left the yard for the first time this season for JWU. Both student-athletes finished with two hits while Scheid took the loss, allowing seven hits and seven runs with four walks over four innings of work.
