PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Emma Glyman made 15 saves to backstop the Johnson & Wales (RI) University women's lacrosse team to an 11-9 win over Saint Joseph's (ME) College in a matchup of unbeaten Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) programs Saturday afternoon at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior Margaret Johnson recorded her second hat trick of the season and sophomore Madeleine Gould also chipped in with three goals as the Wildcats (10-2, 10-0 GNAC) remained unbeaten in conference play, alongside Simmons. Senior Taina Gamory also scored twice as JWU outscored the Monks 3-0 in the final stanza.
The Wildcats trailed 7-5 at the half behind two goals from Gould and six saves from Glyman. JWU pulled even with the Monks twice in the second half, first on a goal from Gould that tied the contest at eight and later on Gamory's 37th tally of the season with 5:59 remaining in regulation.
Johnson potted what proved to be the GWG at 4:05 of the fourth with what appeared to be an errand pass that found the back of the net. Forty-seven seconds later, sophomore Isabella Nugent converted a free position opportunity into her fifth goal of 2023 to extend the lead. Glyman, meanwhile, stopped all five shots she faced in the fourth to move to 10-2 on the season.
Saint Joseph's (ME) leading scorer, Lydia Dexter, entered the contest with 58 goals but was held to just two by the JWU defense, which forced 16 turnovers, including two each from Johnson, Gould, Gamory, and Nugent.
