Wildcats stroll past Hawks, 11-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Caroline Amorelli and freshman Mady Lyons each drove in two runs in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 11-2 win over Roger Williams University Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) softball action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Graduate student Megan Antaya laced a three-run triple while graduate student Jill Pulek, senior Meaghan Gurska, and junior Hailey Erickson all plated runs for the Wildcats (21-7), who have won seven in a row and 14 of their last 15.

JWU struck for four runs in the third and sixth in the fourth to blow the game open. Antaya's second triple of the season, followed by an RBI single from Lyons, staked the home team to a 7-2 lead. In the fourth, a two-run double off the bat of Lyons, coupled with an RBI double from Pulek and a run-scoring single from Gurska, extended the lead to 11-2.

Sophomore Mackenzie Clee made her first start of the season in the circle for head coach Jon Ladino. She allowed five hits and two runs in four innings of work to go with two walks and three strikeouts en route to her first win of 2023.
