Wildcats rally from four down to dump Bulldogs in OT

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student Joe McIntyre scored the game-winning goal with 1:47 remaining in overtime to lift the Johnson & Wales (RI) University men's lacrosse team to a thrilling 12-11 come-from-behind win over Dean College Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Sophomore Jackson Vecchio picked up his first collegiate hat trick as the Wildcats rallied from a three-goal second-half deficit to secure their 10th win of the season (5-1 GNAC). Junior Brent Rickett also potted three goals for JWU, which also received a goal and two helpers from senior Noah Fye.

The Wildcats fell behind early 4-0 and trailed 6-2 at halftime as Fye and senior Andrew Vasile each had goals for the home team. JWU ripped off four-straight to open the second half – including two from Vecchio – to pull even at six, but the Bulldogs responded with three-straight to regain the lead at 9-6.

Trailing by two with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, senior Alex Padula netted his 28th goal of the season to draw JWU to within one. Rickett's 22nd tally with 45 seconds remaining off a feed from Vasile forced overtime.

Following a Dean turnover in OT, McIntyre fired the GWG low and inside the right post 27 seconds after head coach Tim Murphy called timeout to give JWU its only lead of the night.

Sophomore netminder Trent Madigan finished with nine saves as the Wildcats were outshot 34-30. Senior Mike Catuosco went 15-of-25 at the X and led all student-athletes with nine ground balls while Madison was credited with seven. Senior Louis Quinones and junior Andrew Carroll each forced three turnovers.
