PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Katie Sloan racked up eight points on three goals and five assists in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 17-4 win over Rivier University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior Taina Gamory added seven points on three goals and four assists for the Wildcats, who remained perfect in conference play at 6-0 (6-2 overall). Sophomore Madeleine Gould potted six goals for JWU while senior Ally Wilson and junior Maris DiBeneditto each scored twice.
Gamory was also a problem on defense as she caused four turnovers and collected six ground balls. Sophomore Emma Glyman played the first three quarters in goal for the Wildcats and recorded seven saves before being lifted in favor of freshman Liberty Conlin at the start of the fourth quarter.
JWU outshot the Raiders 31-14 and allowed the visitors just five successful clears on 16 attempts.
Prior to the start of the contest, Gamory and Wilson, along with fellow seniors Margaret Johnson, Alana Kessler, and Abie Krause were honored for their contributions to the program. Head coach Maria Patane was also honored after her playing career was cut short following the cancellation of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19.
