Scheid's no-hitter highlights day two of Florida trip for Wildcats

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Sophomore Katie Scheid tossed her first collegiate no-hitter as the Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team rebounded from a 13-10 loss to Carnegie Mellon to down Otterbein 2-1 Monday afternoon in non-conference action at the Auburndale Softball Complex.

Game One: Carnegie Mellon 13, JWU 11
Graduate student Jill Pulek collected four hits – including a three-run home run – and freshman Mady Lyons hit her first collegiate home run in an eight-run fourth-inning for the Wildcats. Junior Hailey Erickson picked up a pair of hits and drove in two runs while graduate student Megan Antaya laced a two-run triple, and both junior Julia Huzi and sophomore Caroline Amorelli each collected two hits. JWU fell behind 12-2 after three before rallying to cut its deficit to 12-10 after four.

Game Two: JWU 2, Otterbein 1
Amorelli tied the game with a single to center in the fourth and Antaya drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to win the game for the Wildcats. Lyons sparked the seventh-inning rally with a two-out single to center, followed by a walk by freshman Jadyn Torres and a fielders' choice off the bat of sophomore Mackenzie Clee, all of which loaded the bases for Antaya. She worked the count to 3-2 before taking ball four high and out of the strike zone to plate the winning run. Scheid, meanwhile, did not allow a hit while walking three and striking out four.
