Softball walks off Anchorwomen twice to complete DH sweep

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team recorded a pair of walk-off wins against in-state rival Rhode Island College Wednesday afternoon in non-conference softball action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex Softball Field.

Game One: Wildcats 2, Anchorwomen 1
Freshman Mady Lyons laced a one-out double off the left field wall in the fifth and freshman Danielle Floyd lifted a sac fly to right to score freshman pinch-runner Rachel Gosselin and tie the game at one. In the seventh, a fielding error on a ball struck my Lyons followed by a double off the bat of graduate student Megan Antaya put runners on second and third with one down. Sophomore Gabby Colace then stroked a single to left-center that plated senior pinch-runner Meaghan Gurska with the winning run. Sophomore Katie Scheid held RIC to three hits and one run over seven to earn her seventh win of the season.

Game Two: Wildcats 7, Anchorwomen 6 (8 inn.)
Sophomore Mackenzie Clee went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff position and graduate student Jill Pulek recorded two RBI for the Wildcats (11-6). Gurska smacked her second home run of the season in the fourth to cap a three-run frame and tie the game at four. Later, JWU found itself behind by two entering the seventh before a bases-loaded HBP and a sac fly from sophomore Caroline Amorelli sent the game to extras. The Anchorwomen manufactured one in their half of the eight, but an RBI double from Lyons in the bottom of the eighth knotted the score at six. Senior Jessica Rynne came on to run for Lyons, stole third, and came around to score on an errand throw on the attempt. Junior Sage Borkowski got the win in relief, allowing four hits and two runs (one earned) over four. She walked one and fanned three.
