PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Riley Hasson went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 7-6 win in 10 innings at Rhode Island College in non-conference baseball action Wednesday afternoon at Pontarelli Field.
Junior Jack Magane went 3-for-5 with an RBI and classmate Thorin Sanchez-Guerra picked up two hits – including a home run – and plated a pair to help the Wildcats climb back to .500 at 7-7. Senior Miles Kelly and sophomore Owen Davis each collected two hits for JWU, which pounded out 15 hits.
The Wildcats grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the second behind an RBI single from Hasson and a run-scoring double from Magane. Sanchez-Guerra's RBI single in the sixth tied the game at three before a run-scoring single off the bat of Hasson in the seventh gave the visitors a 5-4 lead.
In the eighth, Sanchez-Guerra's round tripper extended the lead to 6-4, but single runs in the eighth and ninth for the Anchormen forced extra innings. Hasson's first dinger of the season in the 10th inning gave the Wildcats a 7-6 lead. Sophomore Ryan Schultz surrendered consecutive one-out singles in the bottom half of the frame before recording the final two outs to earn his first save of the season.
Sophomore Brett Nickerson worked the ninth for the Wildcats and secured his first win of 2023.
