MARIETTA, Ohio – The Johnson & Wales (RI) University baseball team knocked off New Jersey City University 13-0 in seven innings before dropping a 5-2 decision to Kalamazoo College Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Pioneer Park.
Wildcats 13, Gotham Knights 0
Sophomore Trevor Juan went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run, four RBI and four runs scored for the Wildcats. Freshman Jack Obert collected three hits – including a solo home run – and drove in three while senior Miles Kelly and sophomore Ryan St. Jean each plated a pair. All nine starters for JWU reached base safely, including eight via base hit. Graduate student Kyle Cutler scattered seven hits over six shutout innings to move to 2-1 on the season. He walked one and struck out five.
Hornets 5, Wildcats 2
Kelly picked up two hits and scored a run while junior Thorin Sanchez-Guerra and sophomore Xavier Botelho each drove in a run. The Wildcats led 2-1 going to the seventh before the Hornets threw up a '4' spot to take a 5-2 lead. Freshman Aidan Vining allowed three hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out 12 in six innings of work but fell to 1-1.
