Wildcats suffer first loss of season to Gordon

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student Joe McIntyre and sophomore Alex Padula each collected two points in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 9-6 loss to Gordon College Thursday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Center.

Senior Mike Catuosco scored his fourth goal of the season and went 13-of-19 at the X for the Wildcats, who dropped their first contest of the season and enter this weekend's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opener with Regis (MA) with a 3-1 record.

JWU held a 4-2 halftime lead behind goals from Padula, McIntyre, Catuosco, and sophomore Donny McInnis. The Wildcats extended their lead to 5-2 on sophomore Kyle Marcinko's first tally of the season 1:21 into the third quarter, but the Fighting Scots (3-2) ripped off seven of the next eight goals to secure the win.

After junior Brent Rickett potted his third goal of 2023 for JWU to knot the score at six with 5:23 remaining in the fourth, Noah Thies netted the GWG with 4:02 on the clock. The Fighting Scots tacked on two more down the stretch at 2:57 and 1:39, respectively.

The visitors outshot the Wildcats 23-15 in the second half and closed the game with a 42-36 edge.
