AUBURNDALE, Fla. –  The Johnson & Wales (RI) University softball team closed out its spring break trip to Florida with a 5-0 win over Simmons University and a 9-3 loss to Marietta University Friday in non-conference action at the Auburndale Sports Complex.

Game One: JWU 5, Simmons 0
Junior Hailey Erickson broke a scoreless tie in the sixth with a two-run single to center that brought in graduate student Jill Pulek and sophomore Caroline Amorelli. The Wildcats tacked on three more in the seventh on RBI singles from Pulek and Amorelli, and a hard-hit ball off the bat of Erickson that allowed the fifth run to come home. Sophomore Katie Scheid went the distance and did not walk a batter to earn her fourth win of the season. She scattered five hits over seven innings of work to go with a pair of strikeouts. Pulek, meanwhile, finished the contest 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.

Game Two: Marietta 12, JWU 4
Amorelli belted a two-run home run in the third, Erickson plated the third run on a ground out in the fifth, and Amorelli singled home Pulek in the seventh to account for the JWU scoring. Graduate student Livia Feole started in the circle for the Wildcats and surrendered eight hits and six earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Both Pulek and Amorelli recorded three hits.
