Brent Rickett scored a pair of goals for the JWU-Providence men's ice hockey team in a 5-4 loss to Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday night in non-conference action at the New England Sports Village.
Freshman
Chris Alexander scored his first collegiate goal and finished the night with two points (1-1-2) for the Wildcats, who outshot the Leopards 40-30 but surrendered four power-play goals. JWU went 2-for-7 with the man advantage as both Rickett and sophomore
Brendan Doyle found the back of the net on the PP.
The Wildcats trailed 2-0 late in the first when Rickett capitalized on a miscue by the Leopards and send the home team to the locker room down one. Doyle's 11th marker of the season 40 seconds into the second period knotted the game at two.
Wentworth responded with three-straight goals (two PP) to move in front 5-2 with 8:13 remaining in the third. Rickett's ninth tuck of the season with the man advantage with 5:09 remaining to make it 5-3 before Alexander's tally brought JWU to within one before time expired.
George Weiner racked up a goal and an assist for WIT while Nikolas Sombrowski handed out three assists. Sophomore goalie Jack McGovern recorded 36 saves to earn his third win of the season.
