Sam Band scored twice and added an assist as the JWU-Providence men's ice hockey team rolled to 7-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action at the New England Sports Village.

Brent Rickett and sophomore
Davis Bone each collected a goal and an assist for the Wildcats (1-5-1, 1-4-1 NEHC), which scored seven goals for the first time since a 9-1 win over Anna Maria on December 13, 2019. JWU also scored two power-play goals, giving them six in their past two games.
Band scored a pair of first-period goals to help the Wildcats open up a 3-0 lead after one. Midway through the second, USM student-athlete Matt Sullivan was accessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for cross checking, and JWU responded with goals PP goals from senior
Brendan Shandley at 10:14 and Bone ta 11:40 to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Doyle – who ranks amongst the national leaders in goals/game at 1.29 – and Shandley each finished with a goal and an assist as a total of nine student-athletes found their way onto the scoresheet.
Senior netminder
Jaxon Friedman turned aside 36 shots between the pipes for the Wildcats in a contest which saw the two teams combined for 78 shots, 40 of which came off JWU sticks.
