Aireus Raspberry scored his 1,000th career point in JWU-Providence's 93-70 loss to Ithaca College Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's basketball action at the BSU Tip-Off Cave Classic at the Adrian Tinsley Center.
The Cranston, Rhode Island native added six assists and five steals in 37 minutes of action for the Wildcats (1-3). Junior
Josh Zangerle led all student-athletes with a season-high 26 points (4-of-9 three-pointers) to go with five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sophomore
Izaiah Shaw-Glen chipped in with 11 points and a team-high seven boards while senior
Jonah Phang connected on all five of his field goal attempts and finished with 10 points.
The Bombers shot 52 percent in the first half and led by 13 at the break behind 13 from Gavin Schauder. Zangerle, meanwhile, registered 15 of his points in the opening 20 minutes. The Wildcats got to within 10 following a triple from Zangerle 1:35 into the second half before the Bombers opened up a 20-point lead.
Schauder and Logan Wendall each finished with 18 points for Ithaca, which finished the contest shooting 45 percent from downtown (18-of-40) and 49 percent overall. The Bombers held a slim 37-35 edge on the glass and committed just nine turnovers.
