PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore
Carlos Andrade scored the game-tying goal with 2:13 remaining in the match to help the JWU-Providence men's soccer team earn a 1-1 draw with Albertus Magnus College Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
The Wildcats – who outshot the Falcons 19-4 over the final two-third of the match and finished with a 24-9 advantage overall – moved to 10-2-3 with the draw (9-1-2 GNAC) and remained in sole possession of first-place in the conference. Albertus Magnus moved to 9-2-4 with the tie (7-2-3 GNAC).
The Falcons scored 8:23 into the match on Ben Pierce's first goal of the season, but were outshot 7-0 over the final 20-plus minutes of the half. JWU hit the post twice in the opening stanza, once on a penalty kick from graduate student
Aidan Bagley and later on a shot from junior
Conner Elliott.
The Wildcats controlled the offensive play in the second half but were unable to get the equalizer until the final minutes. Graduate student
Alexander Pane sent a corner kick into the box – JWU's seventh of the night – and classmate
Jonathan Baker got the ball to Andrade, who headed in his fifth tally of 2023. The goal was initially deemed offsides, but the head official overturned the call after a lengthy discussion with the linesman.
Graduate student
Jacob Friedman recorded four goals and saw his record to 10-2-3.
