Pilgrims upend Wildcats in overtime, 1-0

HENNIKER, N.H. – The JWU-Providence field hockey team dropped its first game of the 2023 campaign with a 1-0 overtime loss at New England College Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Don Melander Field.

The loss moved the Wildcats to 11-1 on the season (7-1 GNAC) and marked their first conference defeat since a 5-3 defeat at Colby-Sawyer on September 11, 2021 – a span of more than 700 days. JWU outshot the Pilgrims (7-6, 6-3 GNAC) 17-11 but were blanked for the first time in the regular season since a 4-0 loss to Salve Regina on September 4, 2021.

Graduate student Margaret Johnson and junior Darian Shepherd each took three shots for the Wildcats, who received three saves from freshman Sophia Brea.

Martina Hill scored the only goal of the match 1:02 into the extra session for NEC.
