PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Graduate student Jillian Miele scored a pair of goals in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 4-0 shutout of Manhattanville College Wednesday evening in non-conference field hockey action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Senior Margaret Johnson and junior Katie Sloan also found the back of the net as the Wildcats moved to 3-0 on the season for the first time in program history. Miele and Johnson also picked up assist on a night where JWU outshot the Valiants (0-3) by a 19-8 margin.
Miele opened the scoring just 4:43 into the match with an unassisted marker. Less than 10 minutes later, Johnson banged home a rebound off a shot by junior Kaitlyn Freeman to double the JWU lead. Sloan's redirected a shot from Miele to make it 3-0 at 20:36 before Miele's second of the night early in the third quarter capped the scoring.
Senior Madison Flaxington recorded four saves to earn her third win of the season for the Wildcats. Freshman Rebecca Johnson played the final quarter and did not face any shots.
