Wildcats shackle Sharks to remain perfect on season

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Mei Tobin scored her first collegiate goal early in the second period to lift the Johnson & Wales (RI) University field hockey team to a 2-1 win over Simmons University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic action at Daly Field.

Graduate student Jillian Miele also scored for the Wildcats, who moved to 7-0 on the season (3-0 GNAC). Senior goalkeeper Madison Flaxington turned aside seven shots to earn her seventh win of 2022 and junior Kaitlyn Freeman was credited with a defensive save.

Miele's eighth marker of the season was the only tally of the opening stanza and gave JWU a 1-0 lead. Tobin's goal off a feed from Miele early in the second quarter extended the Wildcats lead going into the half. The Sharks got one back less than 90 seconds into the third to close the scoring.

Simmons (7-1, 2-1 GNAC) outshot the Wildcats 14-11 and held a slim 12-11 advantage in penalty corners.
