Wildcats outlast Ephs in five-set thriller

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Peyton Oliver collected a career-high 32 kills in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 3-2 win over Williams College Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's volleyball action at the Wildcat Center.

Oliver added 16 digs, six blocks, and a pair of service aces to go with a .344 hitting percentage as the Wildcats held off a late charge by the Ephs (5-3) for a 25-11, 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 19-17 win. Junior Sarah Miller filled the stat sheet with 13 kills, 12 digs, three blocks, and one service ace while sophomore Masina Tupea registered seven kills and seven digs while freshman Daniela Rank notched seven kills and three blocks.

The Wildcats rolled to a win in set one behind six kills from Oliver and 10 assists from sophomore Kyra Hissner, who finished with 55. Three kills from Oliver in the second set, combined with three from Miller and two from Tupea, put the Ephs in an 0-2 hole.

After dropping the third and fourth sets by identical scores, the Wildcats found themselves trailing 13-11 in the fifth – two point away from defeat – before a kill from Oliver and a Williams attack error knotted the match at 13. The Ephs gathered the next point to move in front 14-13, but Oliver answered on match point to knot the set at 14.

Facing yet another match point at 15-14, Rank threw down her seventh kill of the match for the Wildcats to draw the two schools even yet again. Finally, with the score knotted at 17, back-to-back kills from Miller and Oliver sealed the win for JWU.
