Wildcats snap Monks 57-match unbeaten streak with 1-0 shutout win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Brian Miller scored the only goal of the match in the 28th minute in Johnson & Wales (RI) University's 1-0 win over St. Joseph's (ME) University Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's soccer action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

The Wildcats handed the defending conference champion Monks their first GNAC defeat since a 2-0 loss to Lasell on October 21, 2015 – a span of 57 matches (53-0-4). In the process, JWU extended its home unbeaten streak to 30 (27-0-3) and remained unbeaten in its last six matches (5-0-1) to move to 6-1-2 on the season.

Senior Alexander Pane started the GWG with a corner kick from the right corner. Classmate Jonathan Baker flicked the ball to Miller, who one-touched the ball into the net at 27:35 of the first half. Senior netminder Jacob Friedman slammed the door from there, stopping all four shots he faced to record his fifth shutout of 2022.

The Monks were accessed 18 fouls and were outshot 10-8 on the afternoon.
